About Dr. Yan Xu

I have been an independent piano teacher since 2025. I teach because I love building genuine connections and sharing the joy of music with every student and family I work with. My goal is simple: to bring music into your home in a way that is joyful, meaningful, and lasting.

As a parent of three daughters, I have seen firsthand how a solid start in piano can open doors. All three began their music adventure on my piano bench; today, they focus on violin and serve in Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra and Charles County Youth Orchestra. Their path reminds me daily that piano training builds a strong foundation—musically and personally—no matter where a child’s interests lead.

In my studio, students learn with clear goals, supportive guidance, and a focus on fundamentals: healthy technique, expressive playing, and confident musicianship. My thoughtful, individualized approach helps students build strong practice habits that teach them how to learn, tackle challenges, and thrive in their academic subjects and extracurricular activities.

I also prioritize community connection. My students regularly share their music at senior centers and other local events, learning to give back while growing performance skills and poise.
